HomePage![]() WelcomeProfessional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is the 72,000 member (as of 2009) organization that regulates the profession while enhancing engineering culture and practice. PEO's membership is organized into 38 chapters spanning 5 regions across the Province of Ontario. The Ottawa Chapter is the largest of the 38 Chapters in Ontario with over 8,500 members residing within the boundaries of the Ottawa Valley and including the western Quebec region. The Ottawa Chapter is managed by an Executive Committee consisting of five (5) Officers and up to nine (9) Directors. Special Committees have been established to focus on specific areas of interest. The Ottawa Chapter operates under the authority of the Professional Engineers Act and is governed by the Chapter Mandate. Just remember: the best way to keep in touch with any of the Chapter Executive is through our email Ottawa_at_peo.on.ca - we look forward to hearing from you, especially if you would like to volunteer your time with the Chapter, or have suggestions for events, tours, or luncheon speakers. The members of your chapter's executive and our enthusiastic volunteers organize a number of events throughout the year and we hope you will participate in some of them. Please see the upcoming events section of this website - "Events" in the left hand menu bar. If you wish to join a Special Committee or would like more information on the Ottawa Chapter, please contact the Chapter Chair, Ingrid G. de Buda, P.Eng., PMP., FEC. We hope to see you soon!
On January 12, 2010, one of our Chapter members was killed in the Earthquake that struck Haiti. Katherine (Katie) Hadley, only 30 years of age, was completing a short-term environmental consulting assignment in Haiti for Franz Environmental Inc. on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade when the earthquake erupted literally hours after her arrival. Her body was recovered from her collapsed hotel on January 26. A private funeral was held for Katie on Saturday, February 13 in Lachute, QC. The family requests that donations be made toward a new scholarship fund set up at Carleton University to aid undergraduate female engineering students in financial need (Katherine J. Hadley Memorial Bursary). We also encourage everyone to please donate to Lifewater Canada. Lifewater has for many years worked with local drillers based in Cap-Haitien, about 90 miles from Port-au-Prince, to provide safe drinking water supplies to Haitians. A well dedicated to Katie has already been installed. Any donation made to Lifewater towards the relief effort in Haiti will be matched by the Canadian Government. For their part, Franz Environmental has donated close to $10,000 to Lifewater in Katie's memory. On behalf of Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Ottawa Chapter, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Katie's family, friends and colleagues. David Grant, P.Eng.
